The paintings of Jim Wilcox are studies in light, form, and design. Raised in Durango, Colorado, he has resided in Jackson, Wyoming, since 1969, when he jumped full time into his art career. Well known for capturing the beautiful landscapes near his home, he travels extensively throughout the country and beyond.
In 1987, Wilcox’s career took a big leap forward when he was honored with the Prix de West Purchase Award. He also won the Prix de West Frederic Remington Painting Award in 2002 and 2007. A member of the Northwest Rendezvous, he won their Jurors’ Choice Award of Merit in 1986, 1989, 2003, and 2006, as well as the Patron’s Choice Award.
During Arts for the Parks competitions from 1987 to 2002, Wilcox won an unprecedented seven awards, including the 1994 Grand Prize. In 2013, Wilcox won the prestigious Autry Museum of the American West Purchase Award from the Masters of the American West Show. He was the honored artist at the Buffalo Bill Art Show in Cody, Wyoming, in 2014, and was one of three artists receiving the Governor’s Art Award from the Wyoming Arts Council in May 2015.
