Kyle Polzin grew up in South Texas and, with the guidance of his father, began developing his artistic skills at a young age. Raised around horses and the Gulf Coast, he grew to appreciate the beauty and heritage of his Texas surroundings. He worked closely with his grandfathers, both skilled carpenters, and learned the reward of creating with one’s hands.
Polzin began his formal training in fine art at Victoria College in Victoria, Texas, with emphasis in oil painting. He participated in instructional sessions under Dalhart Windberg, whose work influenced him since boyhood. After college, Polzin worked as a graphic artist and web designer while painting in his free time. He began painting full-time in 2000.
Polzin was awarded the Purchase Award at the 2022 Prix de West. For two consecutive years, Polzin received the Don B. Huntley Spirit of the West Award, given in recognition of the most outstanding work in cowboy subject matter, at the Autry Museum’s Masters of the American West sale in Los Angeles, California. His work has been featured in numerous publications including Art of the West, Southwest Art, Western Art Collector and Texas Outdoors Journal.
